All at once people began to pack into the pub just before the game started. From the beginning to the end, both teams played in aggressive fashion. Both were very physical with many tackles and slides as it rained in Brazil. The United States need to win or tie in order to advance to the Top 16. Sadly for us, USA ended up losing 0-1. However, since Portugal defeated Ghana, we were able to advance on to the next round! The game ended late at about 1AM, but it was definitely worth staying out to see the passion of soccer fans from all over the world at the pub.
The coolest part of the night was getting to see people of all nations come to the Red Lion. All over people came from Germany, USA, and many other countries to enjoy the World Cup. It’s known that the World Cup is bigger outside the United States, but seeing everyone else's passion made the statement much more believable. A Thai soldier came in during the 2nd half of the game to look at the score. When he noticed that we were American he told us that even he was rooting for USA. It was nice to know some of the locals were rooting for our country. We may have lost this game, but I’m looking forward to them playing in the top 16!
