As our first week in Thailand is wrapping up, we have been going through a brief introduction inside Aj Gate’s lab and research. Aj Gate’s focus is on CHEM GRINNO, which is Chemistry Research Groups For Green Innovation. His focus is on finding greener and more cost effective ways to conduct analytical chemistry. We have been reading several paper’s he has published regarding chemical analysis using a webcam. Instead of using costly and large instrumentation, his research is focused on using a camera phone to analyze the RGB values of particular solutions for quantitative analysis. This research can be further used to analyze particles on site without having to bring the samples back to a lab. Instead of using traditional chemical indicators, he has researched using greener alternatives such as guava leaves and tea leaves to serve as indicators when analyzing. His research. We are preparing to use this webcam technology on the chemical analysis of protein and I am exciting for the next couple of weeks of getting into the experiment.
